Children: Evaluation
Children and adolescents with ADD can lead more effective lives at home and school with appropriate diagnosis and treatment. Also, parents can be helped to better understand and manage problems and more effectively address needs of their child. A comprehensive evaluation is necessary to accurately establish a diagnosis, rule-out other causes for the problems and determine if there are coexisting conditions. For children and teens, such an evaluation entails an examination of the developmental, academic and family history, problems at home and or school and testing.
Caring for an ADD child is even more difficult if the parent has ADD. The ADD limitations often get in the way of parenting effectively and meeting the demands of family life. For parents or adults suspected of ADD, a comprehensive evaluation by a trained professional knowledgeable of ADD is highly recommended.
