Children: Treatment
Most experts in the field of ADD endorse a multi-modal approach to treatment. Medications, if indicated, often will provide positive results but are not the sole answer to treatment. Individuals and families require education about ADD, effective methods of managing problems and the development of compensatory skills to overcome specific problems.
Also, ADD does not exist in a vacuum. Co-existing problems (emotional difficulties such as depression or anxiety; substance abuse; low self-esteem; family or marital discord; school difficulties; conflict with parents, siblings or peers, etc.) may need to be addressed.
